Biography

Brian Ballard is a member and past chair of the firm’s Real Estate group and focuses his practice on commercial transactional work. Interests include shopping center and apartment development, renewable energy projects, transit centers, sales tax anticipation revenue financing, local option sale tax, infrastructure district financing, affordable workforce housing for teachers, 1031 Exchanges, liquor license law, and community water systems.

Brian has served as outside counsel to Valley Regional Transit, southwest Idaho’s regional transportation authority, and to COMPASS, the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for northern Ada County and Canyon County. He was founding counsel for the Idaho Association of Realtors Legal Hotline, president of Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Boise, chair of the Public Participation Committee for COMPASS, a member of the Board of Directors for Senior Programs of Boise City/Ada County, and a member of the Boise City Development Impact Fee Advisory Committee. Brian has also served as a member of the Downtown Neighborhood Association, a member of the Board of Directors for the Downtown Business Association, a member of the Board of Directors of the Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation, a founding member of The CORE, a med-tech industry group, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Sawtooth Society.

Brian has returned to Boise with senior attorney status after practicing remotely for the past several years from international locales, including Sydney, Australia and Buenos Aires, Argentina, in his role as accompanying spouse to Karen J.F. Ballard, a diplomat in the foreign commercial service, United States Department of Commerce.
