Hawley Troxell is pleased to announce attorney Jacob Downes has joined the firm. Jacob is an associate in the firm’s Employment, Insurance, and Litigation practice areas. Jacob received his J.D. cum laude from Notre Dame Law School, 2024 and his B.S. magna cum laude in Human Development & Family Science from Oklahoma State University in 2020.
Prior to joining Hawley Troxell, Jacob was a Law Clerk to the Honorable Chief Justice G. Richard Bevan of the Idaho Supreme Court. During law school, he completed the 2023 Hawley Troxell Summer Associate Program, where he drafted motions, pleadings & responses to charges of discrimination before the Idaho Human Rights Commission and observed client proceedings and oral arguments before the Idaho Supreme Court. Jacob also spent a semester as a legal intern for Notre Dame Law School’s Community Development Clinic, where he helped clients structure an LLC, obtain 501 (c) (3) tax exempt status, and apply for property tax exemptions, as well as a summer internship with the Transportation Security Administrative Office of Chief Counsel, where he researched and analyzed complicate legal issues including the effect of government penalties on civil liability, reviewed and analyzed pending arbitration cases for sufficiency of evidence, areas for further investigation, and strategies for cross-examination, and reviewed civil enforcement files for legal sufficiency and drafted correspondence.
Jacob was Managing Note Editor (2023-2024) and Staff Editor (2022-2023) for the Notre Dame Journal of Legislation, as well received the Notre Dame Law School Faculty Award for Excellence in Legal Writing in 2021.
Jacob is licensed practice law in the State of Idaho.
